we don’t go around celebrating slave masters
oh wait we do
but we don’t have a day of celebration
where we have a reenactment
of jefferson and washington
and all the slaves they had on this land
would it be appropriate to ask african americans
to reenact this encounter with the british
with the americas?
where everybody dawn the cloaks
of white slave holders
and african americans dawn the cloaks
of their ancestors enslaved
and do this year after year after year
for 300 plus years
and call it tradition
well maybe

underneath coyote’s blood

we return and return to the earth and resurrect
